Carolina Panthers late-game comeback comes up short, Panthers fall to Seahawks 30-24

The aggressive play that interim head coach Perry Fewell called for to contain Russell Wilson didn't give the Panthers the boost they hoped for.

Wilson went 10/13 for 188 yards and 2 TD to help Seattle maintain their lead going into the half while Carolina's Kyle Allen was 5/8 for 49 yards. The Panthers scored on a short run by Christian McCaffrey that put seven on the board for Carolina. The play also gave McCaffrey the franchise record for All-purpose yards in a season with 1,995 after the score. He replaced Steve Smith at the top of the Panthers' record books for the category and finished today's game with 19 carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

AT THE HALF:

Panthers 7

Seahawks 20

The second half proved the Panthers still have the ability to compete and possibly win games against more prolific opponents. But miscues erased their chances to execute a more perfect game plan.

Despite a second half comeback that included two late fourth quarter scores by Christian McCaffrey and Curtis Samuel, the Panthers fell to the Seahawks 30-24. "Football is winning and losing," McCaffrey said. "All the stats and other stuff doesn't really matter unless you win."

Russell Wilson finshed the game 20/26 for 286 yards and two touchdowns. Kyle Allen boosted his tally with Carolinas late rally. He went 25/41 for 277 yards and one touchdown. But the three interceptions were one of of the biggest factors in the Allen's inability to lead the Panthers' offense to a full recovery. DJ Moore added 8 receptions for 113 yards.

Giving up deep plays on defense continued to plague the Panthers. Donte Jackson was targeted on several occassion throughout the game resulting big gains for Seattle. On the sideline, teammates and coaches continued to encourage Jackson. At one point, interim head coach Perry Fewell became animated while engaging Jackson. "He's looking for the ball ...he doesn't have to look for the ball, the ball's gonna be there - go play your man," Fewell said after the game.

Jackson spoke about the exchange ans the experience after the game. "Coach was ablt to talk to me on the sideline and make sure I still had my confidence," Jackson said. "He said you're gonna be out there so you gotta make plays."
