Tar Heels Roll Past Wolfpack in Classic Rivalry (VIDEO)

North Carolina’s Luke Maye scored 31 points in Tuesday’s win against North Carolina State. For Maye, the performance marked a season high, as the 8th ranked Tar Heels rolled past the Wolfpack 113-96.

Maye was hot early and often, connecting on 10 of 15 from the field to help UNC to its eighth conference win in nine chances. North Carolina had five players score in double figures…freshman Coby White (21 points), Cameron Johnson (17 points), and Kenny Williams (17 points).

North Carolina State (16-7, 4-6), was led by Braxton Beverly who scored 16 points.

“I think everybody knows that my teams are going to compete and play hard,” Wolfpack coach Kevin Keatts said. “We kind of go in waves,” Johnson said. “Some guys have big nights, and then next guy has a big night the next game ... and that’s pretty special to our team and bodes well going forward.”

North Carolina (18-4, 8-1) had its highest scoring total in an ACC game since scoring 114 in a triple-overtime loss to Wake Forest in December 2003 — Roy Williams’ first ACC game since leaving Kansas to take over at UNC.

The Tar Heels also had their highest point total in regulation of an ACC game since scoring 115 points against Clemson in January 1968. It was UNC’s best point total in the rivalry’s 236-game history.
