Carolina Panthers fall to the Arizona Cardinals 26-16, rack up third loss of the season
NFL Week 4 provided a chance for the Carolina Panthers to put together two consecutive wins in the second of a three game home stand at Bank of America Stadium.
The Defense put numbers on the board first when Frankie Luvu scored on a 33 yard interception return in the second quarter and it was 7-0 Carolina with 12:13 left in the half.
Following a Baker Mayfield fumble Arizona capped an 8 play 50 yard scoring drive on Matt Prater’s 33 yard field goal.
Then right before going into the locker room Eddy Pineiro lined up and hit a 54 yard field goal, the Panthers up 10-3 on a 5 play 29 yard drive.
The Cardinals and Kyler Murray went to work in the third quarter when he connected with tight end Zach Ertz to tie the game up at 10 apiece.
Murray continued to drive the football in the 4th. Arizona took the lead for their first time in the game on a 39 yard field goal by Prater. Time of possession on that 15 play 57 yard scoring drive, 9:26 seconds.
The Cardinals got another chance to open up a 20-10 lead when Mayfield’s pass was tipped and intercepted. Then Murray took it in from 4 yards out.
Arizona kept the pressure on throughout the rest of the game and Murray found Marquise Brown on a 22 yard strike. The Panthers trailed by 16. Baker Mayfield tried to rally back when he finished a 9 play 74 yard scoring drive on a 13 yard touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey.
Carolina was unable to catch the Cardinals and dropped to 1-3 heading into week 5 with incoming San Francisco.
