Corona Virus concerns ahead of UNC vs Syracuse match-up and other ACC tournament games

The No. 14 seed North Carolina Tar Heels made a statement that they would not be going away easily as evidenced by their 78-56 win over Virginia Tech Tuesday night. The win kicked off their quest to win the ACC tournament this year. But to do it, they'll need to keep that momentum going tonight when they matchup against No. 6 seed Syracuse.

Jim Boeheim's Syracuse team is listed as the underdog against the Tar Heels who have won four of its last five games. But a bigger concern for this year's event is not who team's will face but how to guard against a growing gear of the Corona virus that has been spreading across the globe recently and has now taking a toll on the US.

Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams tried to remain in good spirits when answering question about his concerns about the spread of the virus during yesterday's post-game press conference but followed with the serious side of his concern for people in the US. "The only thing I'm hearing is because of this we're going to cancel the ACC spring meeting ...which will be the greatest thing in the history of this conference," Williams said.

"It's a terrible situation ...this is not a good situation in our country right now."

In a statement released by the ACC tonight, it has been made apparent that officials are ratcheting up their sense of urgency.

“In light of the rapidly changing landscape regarding COVID-19, the latest developments nationally from health authorities and today’s announcement by the NCAA COVID-19 Advisory Panel, the ACC will alter the remainder of the ACC Tournament. After consultation with the league’s presidents and athletic directors, it was determined that beginning Thursday, March 12, all games will be played with only essential tournament personnel, limited school administrators and student-athlete guests, broadcast television and credentialed media members present.”

With new warnings coming from federal authorities every day, each day could be the last day we'll see games continue.
