Javien Elliott makes good use of first-team reps

The Carolina Panthers were back in Spartanburg, SC today to continue training camp activities.

Much of Sunday's practice was spent on two things - install and opportunities. Ron Rivera spoke about the former as he addressed the press during a post-practice media session. He also talked about a player who's been gaining favor among coaches and teammates. Javien Elliott participated in a healthy portion of first-team reps and made good use of the opportunity.

Elliott made an acrobatic move while defending wideout Andre Levrone to grab the only interception for the day. Elliott struck again later in the session when he batted down a Cam Newton pass meant for Jarius Wright.

"He's a proven nickle in this league," Ron Rivera said. "The more and more comfortable he gets with what we do and how we do it, I think you'll see his skill set show."

Elliott comes to the Panthers after having spent the first three seasons with the Tamp Bay Buccaneers. During his stint with the Bucs he garnered 39 total tackles and one interception which came against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers signed Elliott to a one year deal this summer.

On the projected roster released by the Carolina Panthers Elliott is listed as fourth on the depth chart but that could change if he continues to maximize his reps in practice.

The Panthers will continue training camp on Monday, August 5.
