NFL community shows wave of support for Damar Hamlin as he recovers from recent cardiac arrest
Damar Hamlin suffered an injury that was responsible for his heart stopping twice in one night according to a family spokesperson. However, that report was later disputed by other officials involved with the situation. The injury took place at the 5:58 mark of the first quarter when Hamlin made what looked to be a routine tackle. The Buffalo Bills defensive back went into cardiac arrest while attempting to stand up after the play.
The game was postponed by the NFL after Hamlin received medical attention on the field and was later transported to the hospital.
On Tuesday, Hamlin remained hospitalized, surrounded by family and friends at Cincinnati's University hospital. One of Hamlin's supporters is uncle his uncle Dorrian Glenn. "I've never cried so hard in my life," Mr Glenn told CNN.
"Just to know, like, my nephew basically died on the field and they brought him back to life. I mean, it's just heartbreaking."
Tributes for Hamlin have poured in from the Buffalo community, the NFL and across the sports world. Many players and even the owner of the Indianapolis Colts have donated more than 6 Million dollars to causes connected with Hamlin.
A statement issued by the Buffalo Bills that same day showed signs that Hamlin's condition was, at least, not deteriorating.
"Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in the Buffalo Bills' game versus the Cincinnati Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition."
Wednesday, the news from the organization and the family suggested Hamlin's health prognosis is headed in a positive direction.
Interim head coach Steve Wilks weighed in on the situation Wednesday afternoon during the team's regularly schedule press conference. Players also gave their thought on the matter and eluded to the idea that some of them may have given to the cause on an individual basis.
